Version 2 introduced a range of new features and functionality that makes it easier than ever to manage Citrix ICA or Microsoft RDP sessions within your implementations. Among the most significant changes:
-
Added support for Microsoft Terminal Services with or without installation of Citrix MetaFrame This feature extends iShadow functionality to "pure" Terminal Services previously only available within Citrix enabled environments. This new Terminal Services capable iShadow engine benefits Citrix enabled servers as well, by providing redundancy in server monitoring which does not solely depend on Citrix IMA (Independent Management Architecture) and is complimented with native Microsoft APIs.
-
Multi-Farm support Original iShadow v.1 as well as most Citrix session management applications support only single Farm deployment. With new iShadow Application Suite multiple Citrix Farms are supported within one iShadow installation and can be mixed with unaffiliated Terminal Servers.
-
Session shadowing Is extended to provide RDP shadowing as well as cross session shadowing between ICA and RDP sessions.
-
Server Management Disable remote log-ons, reboot and shutdown servers - this is a new capability introduced with iShadow 2.
-
Modular design iShadow v.1 was targeting simple deployments and thus was designed as a monolithic application with no external components. Although this approach simplifies application distribution, functionality updates as well as application patch management become complicated. This is addressed within the new modular design. Although with this version application installation is required, distribution to multiple servers as well as software updates are automated and simple.
-
Improved scalability iShadow utilizes completely redesigned scalable multi-threaded engine.
-
Improved manageability and security Redesigned user interface with granular feature control via new iShadow Profiles.
-
Advanced delegated administration Although original iShadow already supported impersonation, iShadow 2.0 extended impersonation from one account to unlimited impersonation accounts.
-
Extended session filtering Session filtering was extended for both static administrative control and dynamic user filtering. Now iShadow administrators can limit iShadow users to preselected pool of servers, users, user groups and session types via new iShadow Filters. Users are given the ability to apply their own filters to sessions they are authorized to view.
-
Redesigned user interface User interface is replaced with modern drag-and-drop capable design that supports multiple session windows, able to display Microsoft XP Themes, and is more efficient in screen space.
-
Redesigned printer support Now iShadow users can pause, resume and purge remote printers including autocreated printers. In addition to Citrix autocreated printers iShadow 2 supports Microsoft autocreated printers.
-
Redesigned Process Support Process enumeration is switched from MFCOM enumeration to asynchronous WMI enumeration, which provides support for non-Citrix servers as well as more detailed information on processes in question. Also, application binaries can be examined remotely for manufacturer name, version, file size and other properties.
-
Extended session support Support for all session types found with Microsoft Terminal Services and Citrix MetaFrame Presentations servers.
-
Farm Property Management Manage, synchronize and backup Farm properties for all available Farms.
-
Server Performance Assessment Track server response times which reflect server and network conditions.
