VDM is great (see my VDM is fantastic message :D ), however, I would find it even more useful if you could have an asymetrical number of zones. For instance, 2 on top, 3 on the bottom, or maybe a large center zone with smaller zones "encircling" it.
Also, it would be nice to have a feature to highlight the desktop area where the zones are.. maybe visible all the time or via keystroke.
Another cool feature would be the ability to provide different wallpapers for each zone, and possibly to arrange desktop icons by zone.
Finally, i'd like a way to force certain programs to always open in certain zones, however I can foresee how you might want different instances of an application to open in multiple zones, like a web browser. Perhaps a way to have the first instance open in zone1, second instance in zone 2, etc... |

First regarding the asymmetric screen-splits, if we can call it that way: the engine has this functionality already implemented although not accessible to the user due to the outdated UI which we are working on right now. We do have icon control functionality in place already as well (mostly focused on switching between different monitor configurations and local versus remote logins). Once we get the feedback on the application and see what the usage patterns are, it will be possible to project where to go from there. Expect some updates this week. |

Another cool feature would be the ability to control certain applications independantly, regardless of zones. For example, suppose I have my web browser open, and I have 4 zones setup in quadrants on my screen, but i want my web browser to fill the entire left half of the screen, but want my other apps to continue to use the quadrants. Maybe I could select a window, then hit a hotkey combination and specify that it's current size and location are where it is to be "maximized" to. |

There are a few options available: Use [Shift] key when maximizing an application window – it will ignore VDM and thus maximize to the entire screen. Use “Suspend” menu to ignore VDM for all future window manipulations as long as “Suspend” is on. Windows that were already maximized to VDM’s Virtual Displays will not be affected as long as overall screen geometry was not changed. |
