Excellent question!
When comparing VDM with other products there are a few things to check depending on the intended use – local or remote (within Microsoft RDP or Citrix ICA session for example).
When used locally, check if “true” maximized state within the virtual display is required, i.e. maximized window is maximized (not just resized) and cannot be moved from the associated Virtual Display unless it is switched back to the normal state. VDM does provide this capability.
When used with remote sessions it is important to install software within remote session in case seamless windows are used. Both Microsoft and Citrix seamless windows are supported.
In case you are attempting to use VDM locally with remote seamless sessions we would recommend installing VDM on the target machine. However for full screen and fixed-size remote windows VDM is fully functional when it is installed locally.
One example that you might find interesting when comparing VDM to other products such as ATI Grid – try running RDP session full screen when virtual displays are enabled (on the local system). You will find that they do comply with VDM and can be moved between Virtual Displays. You can also move them between physical monitors without changing window state or reconnecting the session when in full screen mode.
We will be glad to know the result of this exercise with ATI Grid. Try running ATI tools within remote sessions as well and compare with VDM.
